I was invited by Stevie Purves to join him shooting the Edinburgh Flyball on the 7th and 8th of February this year.
I normally don’t do any kind of sports photography (don’t know if dog agility is actually classed as a sport, or not… I guess its a “dog sport” and its fast… as fast as most sports.
Both days started at 8am, and I have to say, having never seen Flyball before I was amazed at the speed of some of these dogs. In terms of photography, the dim, poorly lit hall combined with the speed of the dogs proved a challenge, meaning using high ISO to capture images as sharp as possible.
As the weekend progressed the quality of the images I was capturing improved, due to learning the techniques required to track and focus correctly on the dogs. The hosts for the event were a team from Dundee called “The Dundee Dynamutts” and I have to say thanks to all involved they were friendly and provided us with much needed hot chocolate and coffee! (It was exceptionally cold in that show hall).
